Prospect Town Council Adds $1.56 Million to Budget in Divided Vote

misc · Meeting of May 26, 2026

CT PROSPECT — Prospect Town Council adds $1.56 million fund-balance restoration to budget in tie-breaking 5-4 vote. The special budget workshop meeting on May 26 revealed the town faces approximately $4.3 million in financial obligations, including $2.3 million owed to Region 16 and $1.4 million in invoices deferred to the next fiscal year. Attorney David Hardy noted the borrowing resolution required revisions, prompting the council to unanimously postpone the town meeting to June 4.

A motion to allocate $50,000 for a forensic audit of town finances failed 4-5 after extensive public comment raised concerns about financial management and the adequacy of the proposed borrowing.
